In Leopard, your Mac will use Bonjour to find different Macs on the network. Once found, they will show up in Finder under "shared" and there will be little icons of what kind of Mac it is. (See screenshot for example of Mac mini and iMac.)

Can anyone tell me where these icons are stored in Mac OS X?

/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/ - the ones starting with com.apple. For example com.apple.macmini.icns

The PC BSOD icon is in public.generic-pc.icns
