Huh, wonder why the quick turnaround since the last update. That one didn't seem to break anything, so I wonder what prompted a second update within the last, what, 6 weeks? Oh well, I'll try it out when I get home tonight...

I think there were some problems with kernel panics when switching from airport to ethernet networks on different locations - I think I remember something like that on Macfixit. Maybe this fixes it...

maybe we'll stop having the problems with linksys routers now.

sometimes tough to get the girl at the coffee shop to reset the router for you because stupid AE lets you on the network but cant connect to the internet.

Maybe I am losing it, but was it always possible to enable "Interference Robustness" ? If so, does this thing actually works?

maybe this will finally fix all the trouble I have with Airport crashing Mail, Stuffit, the Finder and causing startup delay

(I know it's Airport, because when tuned off, everything runs supersmooth..!)

Bilba,
It's always been there. It's a strange button for a Mac, isn't it. Here we are using the first & best GUI on the planet and they stick an option called "inteference robustness" right in front of us. I mean, what are they thinking? Why not just call it something like

"Click This Option When You Are Microwaving Popcorn Within A 30 Feet Radius Of The CPU"

It's always been there. I've tested it out, and haven't noticed any significant improvement. Apparently it helps when other networks or wireless devices, or indeed microwaves are in range, but it will depends on the details of your whereabouts.

To get AirPort 3.3.1

you had to have installed 3.3.

Since I am using a DLink 802.11b router and it works great, I have decided not to screw with any of the recent AirPort updates since they seem to be mostly for AirPort Extreme networks (and, I assume, an AirPort-based computer that deals with an AE base station.)

When I first bought my iBook and it didn't work with my Linksys wireless router I googled for days (well, Apple's tech support was not much help there) and didn't find any solution to my problem. Eventually the problem went away and I never knew how. This is the first time I see other people talking about resetting the router being the solution. So that must be what I did that fixed it. I really hope this update fixes the problem for good because Linksys routers are everywhere and my AE card would be useless if it didn't work with them without resetting the routers.

Thanks but I did. The update didn't show up on SU until a day after it was posted on the web.

apply to other 811g users?

am i also supposed to apply this update if two of the three access points in my house are 811g linksys wireless access points? (the third is a standard, first-gen airport base station) Or is it ONLY for apple airport extreme base stations?

I don't know about anyone else, but I've got one more bar of signal strength than I had before the update. And that's in the basement and across the house!
