"Safari cannot download this file"
Just got my iPod touch, and I'm wondering if this is possible. (I tried searching through MRoogle, Google, and other places.)
If I try to DL a zip file or a movie file on my touch, I get a message saying "Safari cannot download this file." Can it not DL the file b/c the touch cannot be utilized as a disk out of the box? If I downloaded something like Air Sharing would Safari then be able to DL files for access later? Thanks for any info! |

I believe you have to jailbreak in order to download files in Safari.

No. It doesn't work like that. You can't download .zips, rar, .torrent, .exe, flv, etc, etc.
You can download pictures, stream quick time, and stream youtube. I believe if you jailbreak you can download youtube videos. You cannot jailbreak if your iPod touch is 2G.

Alright, thanks for the info. I'm not sure I want to mess around with jailbreaking, but it would be great to be able to DL files while away from my main computer and just sync them all up later.
Thanks for the info! |

Well even if you could download a zip file there is nothing you could do with it since there is no unzippimg utility built in. Try checking out idownload in the app store. I believe it can download the files your referring to but with anything compressed you'll still need to sync the files to your computer to use them. It does let you view and play some files that you've downloaded though... Like mp3s.

It's not a matter of wanting to unzip it at the moment. It's more of a matter of if I'm surfing around MR and see someone posts some icons that I want, then I could just DL them from Safari and transfer them to my Macbook when I get back home. If it can't happen, no big deal. Just curious!

You could jot down the post number into a piece of paper and refer back to it later.
