looks like all the 'way to go' threads have gone away...

came back after a christmas break to find the i was in the top 20 #4 spot. cool! :) i would hope that i get pushed out of the top 20, but with that said, i'm not slowing down... we might actually catch some of the teams that passed us at this rate. :D

way to go to AggieFRL, SteveMoody, and mc68k.

super job to macbandit going over 1 million, sparky76 going over 2 million, and zim getting ready to kick it 3 million style.

and of the big numbers, the reason this matters, my 'completed work units hero' is PSI Floor&FiberCare with more than 44,000 units completed. points are nice, but WUs matter. very cool. keep it up!

happy 2009 and merry folding to all.

EDIT: WU List sorted by user. ignore #2 as it's a bogus DB entry.

aaaaand done. yeah, baby!

some impressive numbers being generated lately. i won't be in the #4 spot for much longer; looks like i'll have to get comfortable with being #6. :)

good job to everyone!

hey sorry about being late to the party. it takes a lot of work to keep machines up and doing what they do.

back in the day when folding first started, they had work units that were only worth 5 points. now they have ones worth 1920 and 3840! big change in the power of workstations in that time

Woo-hoo! Finally cracked the Top Ten for Team MacRumors. Might not last too long, but at least I can stay long enough for a cup of coffee.:D

sweet, great work. you'll be going over 2 million pretty soon at that rate.

EOC has you at 10 for at least 2 months as of now. better be a really big cup of coffee...

Thanks for the props. I'll probably continue to struggle to be in the top 20 unless I get another computer to use. I'm currently folding with a 2GHz Core2duo and a PS3. Hopefully in the next year. If I find a job. I'll have a new MacBook and a MacMini to add to the total.

keep up the crunching!

i find it funny how so many people are folding, but there's hardly any new folding threads.

and our FAQ is 5 years old haha

I also cracked the top 20 in about 9 months... Right now getting killed by some units not sending results...

Anyway, anyone has PPD for 2008 and 2009 Mac Pros?

i had this same problem, work units 'completing' but not sending. a restart of the unit results in the same thing. the only way i found to get it to behave is to delete and start over. sucks. ive prob lost 30K or more points this way recently

Increase is giving me a PPD that is 2 weeks old (when I was only running one unit) anyone know how update?

here's the PPH (2 units) for 09 MP:

You running two units right?
so 230/240 pph total or just one unit with -smp 8? What is your MP09 though speed? 8 cores I assume?

Tks vm.

If this is with an 8 cores 2.66, I am buying one.

As far as I know it's running 2 SMP units (fah6) so yes, a total of 230-240 pph

This is on a dual quad 2.26 (InCrease "sees" 16 cpus)

I've run 2 units on a 09 single quad, but it there's not alot of processor room to do much else. It very usable with 1 unit working (I'd compare it to using 08 MP dual quad with 1 unit running)

So, I'm very new to this, but I just downloaded the client and am currently folding right now as my CPUs run at 90%+ now. Temp here on my MBP is sticking at around 125F which I'm OK with. :)

Any tips?

If your only running 1 unit and it's using 90% of your CPU I'd suggest not using MBP for folding, your gonna cook it

I run FAH on a Macbook 2.16 and a Macbook Air 1.6 24/7.
They rarely crash but they both need to be on a laptop stand for good cooling, and in an air conditioned room. Of course, when running another CPU hungry program, it is not ideal. But I don't, only Folding.

The 2.66 8 core would be the best price/ratio for Folding.

Any idea what pph or ppd a 2008 2.8 was doing?

A 08 dual quad 2.8 is currently at (only running one client):

Average pph: 147.193, ppd: 3532.63, ppw: 24728.4, ppy: 1290259

A bit more than half 09 dual quad 2.26

I'll have to look at a 09 single quad tomorrow

Stay tuned ;)

Question, what's the MBP at for points?

I fold on a Core2Duo 2GHz MacBook about 20 hours a day with it sitting flat on a table with a hard plastic case on it. It primarily cools with the rear vent very little of the cooling is from the case itself. For your information I've been folding on this machine for about 2 and a half years non stop and have never had it crash from over heating or folding. Seems these days the only things that makes it crash is Safari 4 Beta.

So the 2.8 is faster with two clients? That might be a better buy then.

MacBook 2.16 (2 year old) is good for 1,100 ppd these days.

Here's all the machines in one place:

All running SMP (four core) units (1920 points)

08 MP 2.8 dual quad (single unit only):
Average pph: 147.193, ppd: 3532.63, ppw: 24728.4, ppy: 1290259

09 MP 2.66 single quad (single unit only):
Average pph: 154.133, ppd: 3699.19, ppw: 25894.3, ppy: 1351091

09 MP 2.26 dual quad (2 units concurrent)
Average pph: 138.427, ppd: 3322.25, ppw: 23255.8, ppy: 1213419 (unit 1)
Average pph: 121.971, ppd: 2927.31, ppw: 20491.2, ppy: 1069170 (unit 2)

Do you plan on buying a MP just to fold?

If so, perhaps you'd be better off with a PS3 (they get noisy & hot when folding though)

Or a bunch of minis & KVM switch ;)

I would use the MP for some minor other things as well but Folding mostly ;)

it would take 6 Mac mini to match a 2.8 8 cores...

Also I hope to run the GPU eventually in Mac OS X or through WINE.

Just to be sure, you could run 2 units on the 2.8 MP and get double the points you indicated?

SMP units use 4 cores, so yes you could, but there will be little processor left to do anything else. You'd be OK web browsing, but if you plan on anything processor intensive you'd have to pause one or both units (IE: handbrake will use almost all of the 8 cores)

You can't pause for too long or you'll miss your deadline (which seem to be pretty tight on the SMP units)

I'm by no means an expert, you may want to wait for others to chime in. ;)

Tks.

I guess the Mhz myth is real then in the case of Folding.

Anyone would want to chime on hyperthreading?
What if you run 3 or 4 units on the 09MP...
