For one of my R&D projects I'm virtualising a suite of Leopard Server installs on two Xserves. It's working absolutely beautifully, however for some stuff I really need to be able to run these on my (early 2008, 64-bit, 2.4Ghz 15") MacBook Pro.

Despite a 64-bit system I'm unable to launch either installer or completed Vmware machine transported from one of the Xserves.

Has anyone had any experience of this? I'm just lost as to why I've no problem virtualising 10.5 server on an actual 10.5 server, but I can't do it on the 10.5 client. It should be possible, seeing as it's explicitly stated that Server will run on any Apple branded hardware with Intel processors.

I'd really appreciate any help, as I'm utterly confused as to why it's just not booting completely.
