As a semi-professional graphics designer... I must say that the latest release of CS4 sucks balls and I am wondering if its just me since every review says it kicks ass.

Granted there are a few (useless) improvements like GPU rendering (which inherently slowed down the experience for me)

Let me list the issues with two of the programs i use frequently - AI and PS

Illustrator CS4
This program doesn't work well with spaces AT ALL.
Often times if I set it to space 2 or 3, and flip to that space... parts of the right panels are missing. It's a interface graphical glitch which makes the right panels half drawn and sometimes invisible... and click through! (ie the titlebars disappear!)
Everytime I switch spaces the left control bar is tinted black as if I don't have the program selected. Using Expose will make the left control bar tinted out again.
The font selection menu is none scrollable using the keys and it doesn't show font previews. So I have to click, scroll down the list using my mouse and see it change on the artboard before going back to clicking the menu again... to another font. In Windows I'd leave the menu selected, press down on my key until I found a font that was suitable.

Did I also mention Illustrator crashes often on exit? I've been working on a 4x3foot poster in illustrator and whilst it saves the file... it promptly crashes after saving it... forcing me to force quit the app.

This has no happened in CS3 ever.

Photoshop CS4 (Who designed this piece of crap)
Where to begin... expose doesn't work for this program since it's all in tabs (in fact all CS4 programs seem to forget OS X has expose)... also expose to the desktop leaves part of the PS interface showing. Also often times there are invisible windows that you can click on when using expose.

The GPU additions make the program SLOWER.. not faster. Zooming in and out is now animated... what on earth was the point of that??? Also swiping the trackpad by accident ROTATES MY CANVAS (!@##$@#).

In addition to the silly bugs the application bar now takes up nearly 40px of space... and if you use it in application window mode and full screen it, it fullscreens to your screen! not the visible part between the dock and top menu so most of the PS controls fall behind the dock.

Adobe CS4 is probably the biggest sham of a release ever created by Adobe and a huge waste of money. I'm happy to be going back to CS3 and waiting till CS5 gets released in full cocoa flavor.

I completely agree with you. Spaces and CS4 don't mesh... It didn't work that well with CS3 either, but now it's worse! When you go from one space, back to the space photoshop is in, the art board is completely gray. Often, the tool bars don't even show back up. And what's up with documents opening in tabs? This is the worst addition ever to this program. Dragging layers from file to file is a pain because you have to bring the artboard out of the tab each time. Of course you can turn tabs off, but come on! Photoshop isn't like a cool new hip internet browser with tabs. Who thought of that?

I don't even like the new dock icons... Horribly ugly. Go back the drawing board Adobe. I'm returning CS4 and going to stick with my CS3.

The moment adobe announce 64Bit only for Windows, it was obvious the Mac version was going to be an after though.

CS5 will hopefully be what CS4 should have been

I've only tried the demo's and that was enough to make me tell them to stick the upgrade from CS3

Late last year, Adobe purposely released CS4 programs so fast in hoping to make fast bucks. I feel that Adobe CS3 users shouldn't jumped so fast to purchase CS4's. CS3's aren't ready to be obsolete yet, and they shouldn't be obsolete! It is not even that old! Like any greedy corporation, Adobe is out to make money. Deep down, the company does not care about its customers. Sadly, most customers care about Adobe but the company only cares about profits! For you guys, I am sorry to hear about your experience with Adobe CS4's, and I hope you get your refunds.

Corporations have to make money. I get that. But it hurts them in the long run to release a product prematurely to "make a quick buck". Users like myself will lose faith in the product and ultimately look somewhere else... hmmm... let me see, what is the closets competitor to photoshop? Oh wait, there isn't! They have a monopoly!

it isnt that there is a monopoly. any company is eligable to TRY and create a product that is better than photoshop. its just for the jist of it all...there isnt any software that really DOES what photoshop is capable of doing. it isnt a monopoly. its just adobe. and there is much more to the creative suite than just photoshop.

yes, corporations make money. and in turn, consumers buy products.
in no way should you lose "faith" in a product that you chose to buy.
it was in no way forced upon you.

i agree that cs4 isnt much. that is why i didnt buy it.
i didnt lose faith in adobe because cs4 wasnt what i was hoping or expected.
as i am disappointed, i am still using cs3 on a daily basis, and in any case. i dont care what companies do. if i dont want it, i wont get it.

CS4 an abomination and I'm angry

Premiere - no preview in HD capture - that's right, if you have a deck, you cant see what you're capturing on screen. they tell you to watch your CAMERA MONITOR - great... it only comes with 4 dissolves on the mac!!!! 4!!!! The PC version ships with double the amount of transitions. This is what Adobe told me...no auto-scene detect like in APPL iMovie and FCP.
clip cropping and creation is nuts. File system is a disaster. Just piles everything in your documents folder unless you create the file system YOURSELF.

Pshop - web slideshows are history. They moved them to Bridge. It took a while for the menu to show up (buggy) but its not bad, and the templates are ok. Should be far better and some of the old customization is GONE, like security setttings. It'll take more time for me to see what sucks in here.
Hopes its not much. its pshop, leave it alone, overpaid clowns.

Encore - slideshow, buggy and doesnt work. FAILS TO NOTICE HORIZ AND VERT and no controls to change it - yeah, you read that right....DVDs fail on burning frequently. After crashing, fails to recognize transcoded video, and starts ALL OVER AGAIN. AMATEUR HOUR.

Flash - lots of disgruntled customers, problems with background present on all applications. You always feel like you have to quit out of the app to get your desktop back.

AE - mostly still sweet, and the real reason I bought the update.

All in all, the video side of adobe works, but it has some real sheit in it.
The DVD is unreliable. Make your slide show in iMovie. WAY better.

um, CS3 --> CS4 is not an "update" you allow the downloaded to install for you...

Oh... didn't read it... sometimes I do that and then feel immedietly like an idiot

No... I have not problems with the CS4 suite... although, I still gave Photoshop CS3 and Illustrator CS3 installed LOL..

I just sometimes love the easiness of the new interface... well... it's not for everyone... but I also love how you can have it all in one window... and the Tabs... I kinda like them... but I know that most of you dont!!

Totally Agree

It does suck. AS3 sucks too. It takes about twice as many lines of code do anything. It seems the programmers who know nothing about design screw up Flash about every other version. I hate so many things about CS4 that it would be pointless to list them all.

Money-back please !!!

Basically it doesn't do what it says on the tin. CS4 "Suite" does not work as a suite

Creating a VersionCue server takes an awful lot of messing about. When you finally get one to work the syncing is very temperamental.

Startup scripts don't install (especially in Bridge) when they should and then stop working. Remember this is the hub of the CS4 Suite

You need to do a full install just to install Bridge.

There's far too many adobe.com.library files for the average user to know what the hell is going on here and these are very often the cause of the problems.

Even the uninstall program doesn't remove ALL traces of the product when you need to try to re-install.

CS3 worked - CS4 doesn't - I've been using Macs and all design programs since the mid 80's and this is by far the worst product ever released - it's completely bug-ridden.
