Apple TV high pitched noise

After my Apple TV has been on for awhile or used alot, it starts to make this high-pitched repetitive noise in addition to the regular noise of the fan and hard drive spinning.

It has been doing this for a few months now, I bought it a year and half ago, and did not get the extended warranty. It still performs the same, but the noise is slightly annoying in a quiet room.

Can anyone else relate?!

Mine does the same thing, I think. It's a two-tone, high-pitched tweet or squeal that lasts about a half second, and repeats about every two or three seconds. It sounds like it's scanning for something every two seconds. But it seems to only do it when the HDMI cable is plugged in to a TV that is powered off (or in standby mode). If the TV is on, it stops doing it (or does it a lot less frequently), and if the HDMI cable is unplugged, it doesn't do it. Fortunately, I can only hear it if the room is very quiet, or if I'm within a few feet of it. It's still below the threshold of being too annoying, but I hope it doesn't get any louder.

yep

just started a thread about this yesterday. Mine does the same thing. Was using HDMI cable until had HDCP error on WALL-E. Switched to comp and then this happened. It is not going away and is very annoying. Mine is almost two years old.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Us

so switch HDMI cable to component and that fixed it momentarily. then started back up again. Even switched Component ports to alternate ports on TV and that worked temporarily and now it's back. It stops the moment I unplug the AppleTV.

I'm guessing it is an interference issue of some kind. But I have no idea where it's coming from or how to prevent it or isolate it. changed my network back to wireless g that didn't work. I haven't changed any other other things in my house.

Anyone ?????????

High pitched noises on electronic components are often linked to weak capacitors on the power supplies. If you are hardware inclined, you might want to take apart your tv and look at the power supply section for bulging or leaking capacitors.
