i have a imac g5 and it is hooked up to an external monitor. the reason why i want to turn off the imac screen is because the lcd is cracked. i just want to use the other monitor as the main one.

You can turn the brightness all the way down. You can't shut it off. Isn't there a thing in System Preferences to choose the main monitor?

I don't know of a way off the top of my head, but you can set up the second monitor as your main monitor, and then arrange them so it's hard/awkward to put a window on your imac screen so you don't lose your mouse pointer.

To change which is the main monitor you have to drag the menubar in the system preferences pane where you rearrange the monitors.

Small and Large no Medium

This is why I'm hesitant to go with an iMac, but it seems to be the mid ranged power wise in the line up.

I don't need a Power Mac, and the mini is kinda under powered. Will there or has there every a mid powered separate Mac system that wasn't an all in one appliance, embedded in Monitor?
