Are any of the files you're trying to delete locked? If so, you can get rid of them by holding down Option before emptying the trash.

Well I use these two small apps to empty stubborn trash files, one is "trash it" and the other is "force empty trash" and they both work well. Google those two apps for Mac and give it a try.

1. Go to your Utilities Folder
2. Open the Terminal Application
3. Type this: sudo rm
4. Hit Enter and then enter your password (you will not be able to see your password when it is being typed)
5. Hit Enter

5. Hit Enter
That is going to fail - rm needs an argument of a file or folder to remove.

You'll have to navigate to the Trash, type "ls -a" to show all of the files in the trash, then "rm -f <file name>" and hit enter. Be very, very careful about using rm though, it doesn't ask for a password or anything so if you delete the wrong thing it's gone forever.

you can fix this problem by Terminal it's so easy I'm anew mac user but I could do this

open terminal
Applications >> Utilities >> terminal

and write this code sudo♦rm♦-rf♦~/.Trash

♦ mean space
after that it will ask u about the password your account password
write the Password " when u write it the letters don't appear "
and press enter .

sudo rm -rf is one of the most dangerous UNIX commands, so be very careful to type it correctly. It can delete every file on your computer without asking for further permission.

Edit: But I see this is all repetition from things that were suggested earlier.

make sure you enter killall Finder afterwards as this will relaunch Finder and make a new invisible trash folder as trashing a file without it will just delete the file straight away.

as I said befor I had tried this command and it worked good,
it will solve the trash problem and make it normal without any programs

Yes, and I actually think the OP is after a way to make Finder correctly empty the trash rather than to have to use a third-party utility for the purpose. For that I don't have an answer.

Fixed the command for you... there is no folder ~/.Trash but there is a .Trashes folder at the root of the drive. If you want to nuke the Trash contents, that's the folder you have to delete.
