HELP! New G5 and WinPod

OK got my G5 yesterday, transferred all my music from my Windows machine to the mac through the network, and now I'm trying to format my iPod for Mac HFS. I used the iPod Update program and did a Restore, but all it does is give me a rainbow cursor for 2 hours.

1.) Have I fried my iPod?
2.) How can I reformat it for Mac so I can transfer all my music back to it?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me with this! I forgot how much work sucks without my iPod.
