Altec Lansing Speakers not working with iMac G5

I bought these speakers today and I plug them into my iMac G5 into audio out port and there is no sound. Can someone explain this to me? Do I have to buy an adapter?

- Turn up volume on iMac
- Try with different device

There is no reason why these shouldn't work assuming you plugged in the five parts correctly.

Ok im not stupid, i tried both those things. The volume is up and it works fine with my iPod, and this is a 3.5mm jack. Why isn't it working with my iMac

There is no way i screwed up the plugs, they can only fit in one place. And theres three plugs including the 3.5mm cable, its a 2.1 system btw.

If it works on another computer or device then something must be wrong with your iMac's port I'm guessing.

SOund check System Preferences

Go to System Preferences\Sound\Output.

Speakers should appear there

They don't appear in system preferences. And are they supposed to be sticking out a bit? cuz i can't push them in anymore
