Where can you get 8 gigs of ram not from apple

there is no way im paying that much for 8 gigs so where can i get two 4 gig things?

Exactly. 8GB doesn't work anywhere else.

I did google it and I cant find it anywhere. And yes you can get to the ram in the 17 inch

You're going to be disappointed. Apple's prices are actually competitive with 3rd party vendors. 4 gig DDR3 sticks are just that expensive.

well I probably wont ever need that much but what can you do that requires 8 gigs of ram? I do play games but mostly games from like 8 years ago.

They were competitive when first announced. But DDR3 RAM prices are dropping so quickly. For example, $750 vs. $1200:

you're not kidding about the dropping prices. I ordered a 4GB kit on Tuesday and price has already dropped $2 since then. I haven't even gotten the thing in the mail yet!
