Aluminum Display Leak?

Appleinsider references a forum post claiming that one reader may have seen "advanced product shot of a new Apple display during a routine Apple presentation".

Appleinsider includes an artist rendition of the purported display.

If this is it, it's disappointing. It's clearly not adjustable, which is the only major drawback of the current displays.

Keep in mind it's just a rendition of it. It's not even teh actual one...if it's even close. We still really have no idea what they'll look like, or how they'll work. I'll work on my rendition of the new apple displays...mwahahaha.

Pin-striped plastics are SO ten minutes ago.

Actually, with all the stories about how easy the aluminum PBs are to dent, maybe you could "adjust" these with a mallet.

Don't worry, by the time Apple comes out with new displays the machines will look entirely different again, I project 2006.

If an artist's rendition include Photoshopping the legs and texture of a Power Mac G5 and pasting in a screenshot of a 23" Cinema Display then yep...that's an artist's rendition.

Why everytime someone shows a picture of the "next Apple display" it always looks the same. I could probably find a million pictures from 6 months ago that look that look just like this one. I personally think that this is not the next apple display. As in the original iMac as well as the new iMac, we had no idea what they would be like and were all shocked when they came out. Expect to see the same for the next display by Apple.

and the case is easily change able / repairable want a knew look just run down to the hardware store! or it could be cardboard like the one yoshi made on TSS

Personally, i like the pin stripes, but i do also really like that one in the picture above. Also, i don't think that many people plan on inteninally denting, or droping their $700-1000 investment.

I myself think the new look after this brushed aluminium could be something like transparent plastic that's been darkened, like in sunglasses. And there could be led-lighting inside. And a backlit desktop keyboard would be cool. For the displays, I think they'll have them with the same look as the G5.

They could also put one red eye near the top of them and name them Hal.

It could still have the leg in the back to adjust, and actually, I like it. Okay, I'm a brushed-metal kind of guy. But, alas, it's a hoax. Much like my adolescent, time-wasting photoshop efforts concerning the 23", 64" and iJ-Tron Powerbooks.

compatability

does anyone have any word on whether it will work with older macs?

I have a cube with a GeForce 2MX upgrade (better than the ATI it had originally, at least) and would love to get a sleeker monitor that would look better with it. Either that, or buy a current 20" cheap, when everyone else scrambles for the new ones.

adjustability (and standard VESA mount) would be almost a necessity, (some would buy it anyway) and an input for an HDTV tuner would be awesome.

Someone should come up with that. A stand-alone adapter HDTV tuner box that has a remote control, OSD, and has an ADC plug on it, and outputs (optical, or wire) to a home theater receiver, and right there you have an Apple LCD HDTV. (with a DVI, it could use any LCD monitor)
That would be awesome with a 23" HD monitor, or the proposed 30" lcd.
Maybe someone already has done this, or maybe I should get the patent. The other LCD TVs on the market seem overpriced and small. Definitely not as stylish, either.

What's up with those bezels?

Why are the bezels on Apple's monitors 1 inch wide? I would much rather have a monitor with a 0.5 inch bezel. I've never used multiple monitors before, but I still think the bezel looks a little odd being as big as it is. I'm not a PowerMac user (I expect to become one in 2007), so I don't need one of those Apple displays right now. I will get a display with the PowerMac I get in 2007 - I hope Apple's displays are updated at least one more time before then (not including this rumored update).

I have a meeting at apple next week, I will keep my eyes open and post if I see anything. I hope that the new display is adjustable to some extent but the viewable angle of the current displays is awesome so we will see.

smells like bs to be... not to mention badly blotched photoshop job. here is a better artist rendition ...in my humble opinion... Anyways, i think both are fakes. I mean, did anyone come close to guessing what the G5 will look like ? i haven't seen any made before the g5 was announced or seen.

that is certainly a fake! look at the feet and how they go off at odd angles and they're not even close to being the same size. that said, i really am hoping for revised displays with revised g5s soon.

I'm still hoping for the brushed metal look of the Cinema Display. Jonathan Ives will just improve on the idea.

You guys have it all wrong! The new G5's have the display built into the side of the case. The display in the picture is just a view of the other (removable) side of the G5. I'm not sure why they cropped the handles at the top, though. Must've been operator error.

Either that, or... maybe the new displays replace the removable side panel on the G5! Finally, a use for all that empty space inside the case! Of course, now the darn things will weigh 65 pounds....

Catalog vs Retail???

I'm going to be getting a new Power Mac G5 when they come out later this month. However, where is the best place to buy one? The Apple Store (have to pay sales tax), Mac Connection (no sales tax), Mac Mall (no sales tax), Apple.com (sales tax), or Comp USA (sales tax)??

I figure I can just save 3-$400 on just sales tax after I get my new G5 and Apple Cinema monitor if I go through a catalog. Are there any pros or cons. I really would like to support the local Apple store. Any thoughts? Which online catalog has the best reputation?

I have dealt with Mac Connection the most. If I purchase from them I have to pay Massachusetts sales tax though. If you have an Apple Store or a good retailer nearby you can still go in to get some personal one on one assistance. A feature that is very valuable to me. I have a good relationship with the staff at my local store, they recognize me as a frequent visitor. Mac Connection does have free online tech support for lifetime. They usually have deals on monitors, memory, printers, & software.

New 30" Displays Used In Genius Bar?

I was in the Cherry Creek Apple Store (Denver, CO) over the weekend (as well as the Aspen Grove Apple Store), and in both locations noticed they redesigned the back wall of the Genius Bar.
Gone now, are the images of genius' past - replaced with two, 30" ultra crisp widescreen displays. These displays were running canned "OS X Tips" information. Lots of text, and standard blue OS X desktop look. The text and graphics flying around on the display were incredibly sharp and crisp... making me wonder if the rumored 30" Cinema Display may have some meat to it. Maybe Apple were putting them in all Genius Bars...

Far fetched, perhaps. Wondered if anyone else had noticed and thought the same thing.

Cursed rumor sites.

Nah those aren't the fabled 30" moniters, those were said in a news article not to long ago that apple was changing the genius bar and putting in 2 30" moniters with slideshows and what not if i recall correctly. Just apple spending more money in store preperation and looks than them spending on production of new machines that we desperately need.
