Apple's 17" MacBook Pro Delayed Until Feb 19th

Several readers have reported that Apple has sent out emails today indicating that the 17" MacBook Pro has been delayed by a couple of more weeks. The email indicated that ship dates have been pushed back by about 10-14 days to February 19th, 2009:
Quote:
To Our Valued Apple Customer:

Thank you again for your order! Wrapping up the new 17-inch MacBook Pro is taking a few days longer than we projected. As a result, we will be unable to ship your 17-inch MacBook Pro
until February 19, 2009.
These emails went out to those with the earliest orders placed immediately after the announcement that the 17" MacBook Pro at Macworld.

This, of course, means that the "Now Shipping" graphic that was briefly displayed on Apple's Canadian online store was a mistake.

Most likely a supplier issue that is causing the delay.

I think now they should come with a shiny ribbon on their wrapping.

I think there's an extra "Delays" in the title. :-P

But more to the point...good things come to those who wait. Better that Apple fix up any last-minute bugs than ship out an unfinished product that they have to recall/scramble to code a software fix for.

Intel's next laptop CPU, Nehalem (aka Calpella) is due out around October of this year. Will Apple bring out a 17" MBP with that processor in the fall or will they wait till MWSF? Oh I forgot, no more product announcements tied to MWSF. Now how do we guess when new products will come out?

What is an Antiglare? I assume you mean you purchased an anti glare cover for your 17" Macbook Pro running a 2.93 GHz processor.

Would that be correct?

Typical... how long has it been?

Must be having problems with the internal battery and it's leaked all through the internals of the lappy, destroying it! Just sayin'

I was told on the phone by Apple Customer Care that its due to a parts delay. This 'certain part' is delaying shipment of all the 17" MBP unibody notebooks. I was one of the first purchasers, so i'll be one of those who is pushed to Feb 19th rather than later.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple released these MBP's before the 19th - it would make their image look slightly better than what people are saying at present.

Yeah they always do it, and you always end up getting it before you expect it.

No way; however, would be nice. I am pretty sure, however, that they will come with the new iLIfe09 and potentially less bugs due to more QC resulting in the delayed shipping.

maybe they will take this extra time to resolve a horrible problem with the unibody macbook pro 15: external monitors such as EIZO (used by many image professionals) connected through minoport to DVI adapter (there is no other way) don't display reds properly.

Apple doesn't tell about this problem but many image, photography, and video professionals are stuck with an unusable setup. All expensive stuff and a problems that can set you back professionally if you need to have accurate color reproduction.

It's already a shame that Apple allows this to happen to their image professional customers, but maybe, maybe they will at least try to avoid this problem on their now 17" macbook pros.
