It's hard to get excited about one of the most gimped-by-design computers in existence.

But, it's easy to smile at copy cat threads like the iMac version

Absolutely. But that doesn't make the Mac Pro excessively priced for its market.

Ok, what I should have said is "Apple sells nothing but notebook style computers, including the iMac, if you don't count the expensive Mac Pro which most people can't afford or justify."

Better?

I bought a Mac Pro because I'm a photographer and want (need?) a 30" display. There was no other option so I bit the bullet. I certainly didn't need so much power to run Photoshop.

But this is a Mac mini thread. I'm waiting for a new Mac mini to connect to my TV; something with decent specs that will be good for several years.

A new mini really needs to come out it is over 500 days and the price is really to high for what you get out of the system right now

I figured for the low end Mac Mini Apple would be lazy and just use the current internals of the white MacBook, and maybe slightly better for the high end Mini.

Further evidence to indicate, Apple couldn't give a firetruck about the Mac mini:

Apple hasn't changed the store page on the Mini to reflect the nonexistence of the 23" Cinema Display.

It is to be noted, however, that Apple NEVER changes the store pages on ANY computer unless there is an update to what is available for that computer in terms of hardware.

Oh, but they HAVE taken off the 23" button from the selection window.

I was contemplating the ATOM processor rumor. It is probably utter BS or rumor hash, but then I thought about Apple maybe making the mini even cheaper and less capable. Is there a chance Apple might make an extremely trim version of the mini? Something under $499? I believe the lowest denominator of Apple's computers will always be the ability to run iLife and iWork.

As for the double HDD, I never heard of the rumor before this thread. It would be an excellent choice, even if that drive is installed at home. My hope for the mini is that it allows the user to more easily access inside, upgrade ram, drives, etc.

I doubt it. Steve Jobs' words would come back to haunt him. "We don't know how to make a $500 computer that's not a piece of junk."

An Atom mini would be a piece of junk compared to the current C2D mini. There's nothing terrible about Atom. It works fine in my netbook but it's not suited, as you mentioned, for iLife apps or any heavy lifting.

Yep, it looks exactly the same as my two.

But... no one knows anything for ANY of the products, anyway.

Except that the new iMac and Mac Mini are using the 9400M.

excellent work TS, this is pretty much exactly how it is going to be!!!... unless apple waits until November for quad-core which i highly doubt. it would interfere with the MBPs, iMacs and even MP's too much.

i wish they would add an optional GPU, a nice dedicated one would be very handy for those who wish to play basic games every now and then. it would benefit quite nicely with SL aswell.

I'm thinking of getting a Mini and ditching my aluminum iMac.

Love the iMac, but hate that I can't use the monitor for anything else.

Maybe I'll just get a new plastic MB though since it is only $200 list more than the high-end Mac Mini. At least you can easily replace the hard drive in those.

It's just too bad that you don't know any real info.

Actually, maybe not, since having only "mini" versions of ports is an idiotic idea.

If you had seen it, you would have pictures. If you had pictures, you would have posted them here.

Exactly. Pictures or it didn't happen.

Plus, there is ABSOLUTELY no reason to have 1 Mini-DVI and 1 Mini-DP. One full sized DVI, 1 Mini-DP, but having one old connector and one new one makes no sense.
I call shenanigans

And don't come back saying, "Oh, well, since you guys didn't believe me, I won't post my pictures; how's that?" because there are only two ways that this will end:

1. You don't have anything, can't post anything, and are only covering up your easily-picked out lie.
2. You have actual pictures, choose not to post them here, for whatever reason, and then go post them somewhere else, leading us to find out about them anyway.

It is human nature that if you have something that no one else does, you will want to brag about it. Either that or you don't actually have it. Terrible, but that's how I've seen things.

Now ASSUMING you actually know something, is the 2.0 GHz version the low-end, midrange (if there are 3 models), or high-end?

Sometimes I truly wonder, when it comes to the mac mini and imac if apple:

a) is out of touch
b) simply doesn't care
c) is cooking something great up

I like to hope it's C. I guess I'm just growing bitter with every passing Tuesday I wait.
