Keep text cursor visible in Office when typing?

I have Office 2008 and notice that in Office, unlike in Textedit or in Firefox, my text cursor disappears while I am typing with any reasonable speed (and then of course it reappears as soon as my keystrokes stop). I find this disorienting; it really reduces how responsive I feel the application to be. Is there any way to change this?
