Does anyone have a point of view of which of the 2 systems above will be best - I am more concerned about speed, reliability and mac compatibility than cost... have been looking all over the web for comparisons and mac reviewers but not found anything hugely helpful and am now wasting too much time looking and worrying about something which is probably not that important... thanks!

Can't speak for the above systems, but I'm using two Devolo AV Easy homeplugs in my setup to stream video files from my Mac to my PopcornHour media tank.
Been using them flawlessly for the last year. Never had to configure them, plugged in and they just work!
