Getting a PowerBook G4!! (More a story than a question..)

Sorry guys, just need to share it here.

It's because of this: I'm dreaming about a Mac for like 8 months now, working as much as I can and they need me at work, collecting money for an iMac. Looking on the internet to find everything about it and following everything about when the damn updates come.

And now, just yesterday, I decided to get a PowerBook! I was thinking about a laptop a little longer, but never gave into this because an iMac is what I really need..

But, when 2009 started, I decided for myself, not to stop smoking because I don't smoke, not to work better at school because I know I wouldn't, but, to finally, write a book! I wrote before, but never a total book...

And what's a better writing experience than writing on a notebook? And what's a better notebook than one with a beautiful white half-eaten Apple () on it? (If you know what I mean)

So, I decided, secondhand is better since I still want an iMac. Powerbook then is cheapest with good specs, iBook looks to crappy to me, MacBook is to expensive if I still want to buy an iMac anytime soon (read: in few months).

So that's how I chose a PowerBook. And my beautiful first Mac machine will be:

A PowerBook G4, 15'', 1.5 Ghz, 1 GB ram, 80 GB HHD, for E 400..

Euro: 400
US Dollar: 510*
GB Pond: 357*

*at the moment of typing

So, that's my story. Good price? Any do's or dont's? Liked the story?

Just had to share this somewhere..

Ehh..you probably could have found a first revision MBP for that price. Well, maybe a little more.

As of March the Powerbook G4 will be considered a legacy product by apple, and won't be supported by 10.6.

I get Leopard with it, and on cd as well.. Don't really need Snow Leopard or anything on it for now I thing (will get that on the iMac), plus it's mostly for writing, copying my music to it and play some games till I have my iMac.

I first had too 300 euro offers, one never replied after a phonecall conversation, second had coffee on his screen. Anything else was at least 400 euros and I think I'll enjoy it. MPB's I saw were lot more expensive here..

My current pc (which I'm writing on now ofcourse) is a old crappy Dell, 500 MHz, 256 MB Ram, running XP, so it should be a big step forward anyway..

If you can access the marketplace on this site, you should check there. Someone is selling their pristine 12" last gen Powerbook for $450US shipped, in the US of course. The 12" form is perfect if you will just be writing on it.

edit:
Here it is, http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=641783, if you can access it. It's $450+SH. Maybe he'll ship over the pond?

I agree with the others. If you are going to do writing, the Powerbook 12 incher is not only perfect for you but also considered great a collectors item.

Sorry, but there's nothing wrong with a g4 ibook for your purposes. My septagenarian father bought a 1.07 ghz g4 ibook recently, with a little under a gig of ram, and it worked really well for surfing on a wifi connection, email and word processing.

If you wanted to save as much money as you can, consider an iBook.

I also want something that I find beautiful, so it was at least an aluminium powerbook or a macbook for me. PowerBook is cheaper, and 12'', yeah, I thought about it.. But I think 15'' will fit me well.

I won't use it for the hard stuff, neither need up-to-date software (which only runs on Intel etc.), but might be using it just for basing stuff. Think it will go with me on vacation as well, and replace my pc till I have my iMac..

Just can't wait till friday
