A possible image of the next generation Mac Mini was first posted to a MacRumors forum discussion thread. The image depicts what could be the next Mac mini.

The original leaker also claimed the following specs:

- 2GHz
- 3MB L2 cache
- 2GB RAM DDR III, 1066MHz
- Super Drive is SATA

Great picture, is probably the next generation of Mac Mini's. I can't wait to see what's really going to happen. It looks like we are about to see new Displays, Mac Mini's, and a new Mac Pro all at the same time.

Awesome if they did that - keep FireWire, 5 USB (obviously only running off 2 or 3 buses though) and dual display ports. I like.

If it has all that, heck i may have to pick one up!

I Dont think they would let it through without a Case Upgrade though.

Other theory

Rather than "Apple is not going to release new products when the economy is down" -- which I find absurd, it might be, "Apple is taking longer to burn off their old inventory in the slow economy."

The size of the device and the amount of USB ports reminds me of the nVidia Ion reference design. Maybe the rumors are true after all http://www.macrumors.com/2009/01/15/...-due-in-march/

Because its not an Apple TV. If it was an Apple TV, it would be HDMI and Mini DVI.

If I could run the Apple TV software on it without any hacks, I'd be interested.

You already pretty much can. I hook up my MBP to our TV at home and use Front Row to make it just like an Apple TV. You could use it as both a computer and Apple TV.

looks great, but if the reports of an atom processor are true then I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. Give it that array of ports and macbook specs and I'd buy one.

Firewire(800) on a Mac-mini but not on a MacBook? That doesn't make sense.

I want one, and I want it now.

0tim0, think you've got it spot on. Makes far more sense.

Looks good, I just can't understand the Mini keeping FireWire but the MacBook has lost it.

It is the same size as the old one in the photo so surely the processor will be core 2

However, the mac mini in the photo is still white and aluminium when the rest of the mac line is black instead of white. I doubt the mini would still be white, so either this is fake or this is is a prototype made from old parts or something

So I guess reports of Firewire's demise were greatly exaggerated.

If the picture is real, there doesn't seem to be a physical redesign in size, shape or color. Which kind of makes you wonder what is taking them so long to release it.

I'm guessing the configuration will be based on the White MacBook. Namely 2GHz Core 2 Duo on a 1066MHz FSB, with the 9400M but using 2GB DDR2 667 memory instead of DDR3. Although the 2GHz P7350 has actually been replaced with the 2.13GHz P7450 so maybe Apple will be nice enough to use that instead, but I doubt it seeing they stuck with the 2GHz P7350 for the White MacBook.

It better not! This is what I am looking forward to it having:

-2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
-2GB of Memory
-160GB Hard Drive

I think this will probably be the low level Mac Mini at the same price, $599.
