Question extracting audio from dvd

apologies if this has been answered on already, but how would i go about extracting audio from a DVD movie (so I can sample or burn onto CD)?

Also, extract may not be the right term, I would easily settle for recording audio snipets from a DVD movie. I just bought and iMic, and thought I may be able to connect the audio out from th DVD and play it.
