HI All,

New to the forum and unfortunately with a problem. Just got a new Mac Pro 8 Core over the weekend and Im having unusually high number of Kernel Panics (more in a couple of days then I have for the past 10 years with my other macs). I have tried to see if anything in particular causes it (ie Programs that cause the crash, time intervals, etc) and nothing can be ruled as the cause at least not that I can notice. It has happened wile using PS (CS4), Aperture, Google Earth, Safari and just in sleep mode. Any help would be appreciated. Here is one of the Kernel Panics along with system info. ps. The Mac started kernel panics before I loaded two additional hard drives and the wireless card (pci express).

Thanks for your help in advance! If i need to post additional info, let me know.

If you have a brand new computer that is having kernel panics, don't try to fix it yourself. Make Apple do it. There's no need to put up with faulty hardware.

Try uninstalling Parallels Desktop, as well as any other software that may have installed kernel extensions. If you are unsure about what kernel extensions are installed, type sudo kextstat in a Terminal window and paste the output here.

Thanks Electric. (Added) Would you suggest any particular program to completely remove programs on Mac? Obviously there is code left over after sending the program to the trash. Here is the info:

Hi All,

Just a quick update on whats going on, my changes I have made and the outcome.

I retraced exactly what I did when I got the Mac. I purchased it (supposively brand new) off of ebay. When I got the it in, it was new but had been set up already. So here were my steps.

First. I changed the user name and password. I noticed that my user name did not change in my finder though, only on log-in. I went back yesterday and changed it back to the original user name "macuser". After a few hours of not crashing I thought that was it then "BAM" ...... another Kernel Panic. SO off to the second thing I did.....

Second (which I believe is the source of the issue) and some of you guys really may get a kick out of this, lol. The second thing I did after I got the Mac was hook up my MICROSOFT MOUSE... I know, I know.. some of you would die if you knew I did this but fact is that Ive been using this type of mouse for a long time and really like the programmable feature like back, forward, etc. Anyways...... after simply switching back to the Mac Mouse I have yet to have a Kernel Panic. I had installed the latest drivers for the Microsoft Mouse and everything. Very interesting turn of events in my opinion.

I will keep you guys up to date on the progress and HOPEFULLY..... HOPEFULLY no more Kernel Panics.

Thanks for all who responded!

I experienced the same issue with my MacBook Air and the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000. The kernel_task would eventually take 500MB+ of RAM. With heavy mouse usage, I'd experience two or three kernel panics a day. I uninstalled the Microsoft Mouse 7.1 driver and have not experienced a kernel panic since. The current kernel_task process is using 99MB of RAM after 1 week without rebooting.

I hope Microsoft fixes the driver because I like mapping the side mouse button to "Back" for web browsing convenience.
