I think there will be the day when Apple offers anti-glare as an option to the MBP line since the 17" have it. Should I return the MBP 15" I bought and just wait for anti-glare?

It looks so much better!

If we are ever going to see anti-glare on the 15.4" MBP, it will be with the very next speed bump update as a Build to Order option just like the 17" MBP.

Unrelated, I feel the same way about FireWire on the MacBooks, if ever it will be in the next update.

Already been 4.5 months since the MBs and MBPs were updated. So, the next updates should be approximately 90 days away... that's the average we never really know with Apple.

Wow, that does look nice. I don't mind my glossy Macbook, but that's probably because it's my first laptop and I love the thing.

I did the exact same thing you did.

I thought I wanted gloss until I went to the Apple store and saw the glossy and matte side by side... I was shocked! I couldn't believe I liked the flat look of the matte more!

But if you look at all of Apple's competitors, they are all gloss... so maybe the entire industry (or most of the suppliers) have abandoned the matte look. No one has heard if Apple will release mattes on their below top-of-the-lines ever again. :(

Keep the one you have. You'll get used to it.

so he says, remove the glass from the front and build a metal bezel around it to hold the display...same anti glare properties as last 17"

so is that why?

No, it's the part where Phil talks about some of their high end customers would not have a glossy finish on their display.

I think Apple will offer the same matte option on the 15" MacBook Pro, along with a higher resolution display, just because that is the sweet spot computer in Apple's notebook lineup.

Edit: the MacBook would also benefit from the matte screen, although a better overall display I think would have precedence (like the one Apple's using in the Air) and also the return of Firewire too.

I have a feeling too that the matte will be available for the 15" MBP...thus I may return the glossy version and just stick to a whitebook for now

i am also waiting to see if there will be a matte version for the macbook before upgrading...

I'm looking forward to your "Apple didn't introduce a matte 15" Unibody thread" :)

You'd be better off just explaning yourself because I have seen that keynote multiple times and have no idea what you are talking about.

My guess, since you aren't positive either, is that they released the 15" MBP w/o the matte option and wanted to see how well it was received. However the complaint still remained that the HIGH END USERS wanted MATTE screens. And lots of people on these forums continue to complain about this because if have seen the glossy screen its just awful, look at the picture below. Apple took their highest end notebook and gave the option. They are testing to see how its received among the customers. Its the only thing people even cheered about in this keynote. I bet you that the matte option is selling well and they will give the option to the rest of the line, its as simple as removing the glass...so tough and they charge you $50. But thats such a small price compared to the market you pay on these computers.

I, for one, will not be buying another MBP until the matte option is back. The upgrades of the new unibody MBP's is not great enough to overcome the mirror they slapped in front of their high end display.

There's really not much to upgrade all the MBPs with. I think the next update won't come until June/July, or perhaps an announcement in June, but a release in July or August or something.

I agree with you.

I don't think people should slave over every word of that keynote and analyse it for clues on Apple's plans. I don't think the words spoken by Schiller were so carefully and precisely laid out ahead of time that there's any point of analysing it. Yes, high end customers wanted a matte option, but in no way does that imply that the 15" MBP won't get a matte option.

Besides, paying $100 for the matte option is essentially paying for nothing, and Apple knows it's an easy way to make a profit, since so many people are willing to pay for it. It's not like the really expensive upgrade from 2.4 GHz to 2.8 GHz, which very few people do. You pay them $100 so that they can save money by not using glass. Awesome for them. Yes, it would cost Apple a few more dollars to fit a plastic screen and aluminium bezel (it's plastic...whatever), but they'd profit quite a bit.

We will all see. I am still predicting faster CPUs at least for the MBPs in a speed bump update within a few months. I still think the matte option is definitely going to be a BTO option with the next update. Battery may change... who knows.

Ask Kastenbrust. He knows everything. We are not going to get MB or MBP updates for seven more months. No reason to update it until Snow Leopard comes out. The CPUs are not going to change until 3rd quarter 2010 when Apple gets the Core i7 mobile CPUs. We are NOT going to get matte on the 15.4" MBP, not now not ever. No netbooks, market is saturated. No changes on anything until Jobs gets back.

Anything else you would like to know, just send him a PM. Or, he just might be too tired of explaining it all to us. According to him, most of us "arn't" smart enough to be on this site, like me according to Kastenbrust I'm a "retard" and none of us should talk here about what we don't understand.

Also one of my favorites from today, "so easy a monkey could do it" so I guess we are a bunch of monkeys too if we cannot change an SSD hard drive ourselves. I just wonder how many people he could offend in one day... could be a fun poll - just invite everyone from the 50 threads he replies to in a day and we could get that answer.

LMAO

Seriously though, the guy is a genius if he could just stop insulting people. We all "arn't" always too happy when getting called retards and monkeys by people on forums.

Let's grab some torches and burn one apple store a day until they bring back matte option!

I'd love to get aluminum Macbook as my portable computer, but glossy + outdoors = sux; I'm not so much bothered by MBP/iMac, since they're rather gaming/multimedia and I can live with glare on that. (still, I'd preffer matte)
