Hey all, Im having a bit of issues with our mac.

I have really good internet connection on my user profile [fast speed, good video streaming, etc], but when my mom logs into her profile the internet speed is at least half the speed that im running.

Do you guys have any idea what it could be?

Her's is no different than mine, other than about 100 bookmarks that she has.

Also, we are running Firefox 3.6

What other apps is she running, that the other profiles aren't running? AntiVirus? AdBlocking? Add-ons? Plug-Ins? What about Firewall settings? There are lots of variables that could cause that.

No Add-Ons.
No Anti-Virus.
No AdBlocking.
No Plug-Ins.
Firewall is off.
Other profile is not running.
Only "App" is Finder.

First, I'd turn the Firewall on, if it truly is off. Second, look at Activity Monitor to see if you recognize any processes running that could be using up bandwidth. You can also download Little Snitch, to see what apps are accessing the internet.

Turned the Firewall on.

No processes are hogging up bandwidth, other than Firefox..obviously.

And downloaded that, and nothing is affecting it.

There are some funky processes running.

They take up about 60-80% of system memory.
It will jump around, and these processes will appear/reappear.

Im talking specifically about the lsof, awk, pbs, etc.

Use the popup menu to switch from My Processes to All Processes, Hierarchically to see who spawned off those lsof jobs.

It's a widget that is causing this. Find out which one, remove it, kill the process and all will be good. Had a friend with this same issue.

Thank you!

It was actually one of my mom's widgets on her dashboard.

Ironic, considering the widget is supplied by Apple. (Weather) :p

It fixed the internet, but!
Our system processes are using 60-75%, and user is about 30%?

Is this normal?
