I am getting ready to submit an application to the app store and wanted to ask a question for any developers who might be able to help me out.

I know that I will be able to give away a certain number of free downloads, however, will the users who get the free downloads be able to leave ratings and reviews for my application?

I am depending on friends and family to help me get the ball rolling with some positive reviews, so it defeats the purpose of giving them free downloads if they won't be able to review my product.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, they can write reviews.

Promo codes are a great way of getting people to review your apps, but don't rely solely on reviews in iTunes to get your app noticed.
