I would like to avoid installing yet another program (Darwin) in order to install the one I want, if you get my drift.
Is there a native Mac OS X drawing program that can work as replacement for Xfig? Xfig is a bitch to install under Mac OS X 10.5.6.
I second Inkscape. The only thing it requires is X11, but that's easy to install if you don't have it.After using xfig for a long time, I switched to Inkscape. No regrets.
MacPorts is pretty small in comparison and offers an easy way to install a whole host of Linux / Unix software. It is highly recommended.
You'll need to install the Apple Developer Tools whatever you do anyway and that is a few GB's of stuff so I wouldn't worry too much about MacPorts.
