I haven't seen a thread on this yet. TechRestore is now offering a matte screen replacement for the 13" aluminum MacBook for $200:

In an email, they told me that they are considering offering this service for the white MacBook as well sometime in the next few months.

If you would like to see the same service become available for the white MacBook, email them and inquire about it! The more interest shown the more likely it is that they will actually offer it.

This is interesting... but they won't be replacing it with a non-glare glass cover.. so it's not going to be like the anti-glare 17". If they put anti glare glass back in I would probably be sending my Macbook in for an upgrade.

I found this article quite interesting, it touches on the non-glare glass cover you mentioned, as well as some "interesting" screen shots of the results:

Even still, I emailed them and inquired about the matte screen upgrade for the previous gen Macbooks. I've seen a few posts on the net about people doing it. I'm considering tackling this project in the next couple months.

ahhhh interesting!!

I'm not a big fan of the glossy screen on my Macbook... but then, I might be selling it for a MBP in October

Do they offer to swap the ****** panel too? ;)

Nice offering, but I wish people didn't have to go this route.

Doesn't the current matte 17" MBP have a different bezel than the glossy version because it doesn't have a glass cover?

i HIGHLY recommend people to look at the macworld article.

they have close-up pictures of the post-modification macbook.

and it isn't pretty.

if they knew they were going to be reviewed on THE major mac publication, you'd figure that they would do a great job instead of some "DIY" roughness

OUCH! Thanks for the link.. I wouldn't be able to stand looking at my Macbook after having someone butcher it like that. No wonder the website doesn't have any close ups to show the quality of their work.

What's so great about the matte screen ? From the MacWorld pictures, it seems there's more glare on the matte surface than on the glossy surface.
