Exclamation eMac just updated to Tiger - can't play video online

Hi all,

I just upgraded my gf's eMac (1Ghz G4) to Tiger and installed another 512mb ram that i ordered from crucial so now it's got a total of 768mb.

The machine is now pretty quick... except it can't play ANY online video (youtube etc). Audio comes out fine but the video skips so many frames and ends up with 1 in 5 frames displayed (roughly).

Is there anything i can do? I had a PB G4 1Ghz with exactly the same amount of ram and Tiger was fast on it, so i assumed on this machine it would be pretty much the same.

**I have downloaded Flash 10 already at someone's recommendation**

Thanks in advance for your help.

M

I don't have any helpful suggestions off of the top of my head, but I wanted you to know that I have a 1Ghz eMac w/512MB of RAM running 10.4.11 and youtube works fine. In fact, I even use my iSight with Skype to video chat with relatives.

Perhaps something is wrong with your internet connection? Do other computers on the same internet connection work fine?

Are you sure that you have a plug-in?

My 800 MHz G4 also has lots of issues with YouTube. I don't think the CPU can handle these versions of Flash.

Wow ok. The network connection is not the issue. Other computers on the network stream perfectly. Which version of flash are you running?

Except my G4 PB has no problem at that was the same processor speed. Plus, the other poster has no problems.

Which version of Flash?

Supposedly v10 has problems on PPC machines, but v9 was a lot better.

If you just upgraded, you probably got 10. What is on the G4 PB?

The eMAc i upgraded to Flash 10 because someone here said it was better. The PB G4 is now being used by a family member abroad who won't have downloaded Flash 10, so i assume flash 9? Is there any way to uninstall and re-install the older version (if it's better)? Thanks!

i had an emac 700 and it worked fine for me, so it really sounds like a flash plug in problem. i would d/l it again and then install.

Version 9

BTW, this thread:

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=587946

Contains this link:

http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/view...nalId=tn_14266

where you can download old versions of flash (including v9). The file you download contains a bunch of different releases of flash v9 for windows, linux, macos, etc.. it looks like the last release of version 9 was "Flash Player 9,0,159,0" (inside the 9r159 folder).

Just throwing this out there, but did you "upgrade" to Tiger, or did you do an "erase and install"? Reason I ask is because I had someone take a similar computer (iMac G4) and "upgrade" from Tiger to Leopard, and had the same issue - really slow flash/video playback. I formatted the hard drive and installed Tiger from scratch, and the problem was fixed.
