Boxee + Hulu (new rss feed version) Working again?

So I updated to the newest build of Boxee that supports the new public Hulu rss feed and then it stopped working for about 8 hours. In that time I read on engadget that Hulu had blocked the broswer (via user agent strings) on Boxee. So I got bummed, but figured I could change the user agent string like I do in Firefox from time to time. Before I could figure out how to do that, Hulu in Boxee started working again.

So I guess my real question is, if you have the newest build of Boxee on your TV, are you able to access Hulu? If you can, which networks are you able to watch the shows from? Maybe it is a network thing?

Wow. I just don't understand how the content providers DON'T get it.

I think it's programmers vs programmers at this point, it will likely be up and down for a while until one side gives up.

just watched last week's simpons. Worked fine. The twitter feed doesn't say anything about the reasons for the on and off. Its a bit premature to say Hulu is intentially trying to block. It is far more plausible, that this version of Boxee is just buggy. Its not like they didn't WARN everyone of the bugs and all...

Really? Because everything i have read says they ARE trying to intentionally block it.

Yes, that is correct afaik. Content providers make 1000x more money from licensing to Cable networks (Comcast, TWC, FiOS, etc) than they make from Hulu, so when push came to shove, the content providers buckled.

whats really interesting is that nbc just released its content for the ps3. so if the issue here is that they dont want people watching streaming tv instead of live tv, this doesnt make sense because the ps3 is meant to be connected to a tv.

http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/10/n...ation-network/

this really makes me think that fox is the one keeping hulu off of boxee, since nbc does not seem to have a problem allowing their content to be streamed to the ps3.

Could be. Although I wouldn't put it past NBC either. Seems to me that NBC has been playing various games to keep any single digital service from gaining the upper-hand. They pull out of iTunes and go to Amazon, then back to iTunes. Hulu on Boxee, then no Hulu on Boxee.

I think the real evil ones in this whole scheme are the cable companies. They are afraid of people dropping cable subscriptions to get free TV via the Internet (well, not really free if you consider your Internet access cost, but you know what I mean).

I can get the audio to work, but no video for some reason. As for other content, CBS, Comedy Central, CNN, and the others still work fine. It's just Hulu, which means NBC and Fox content.
