I was using my Late 2007 Penryn Macbook Pro today, and things started going strange - finder crashed when I tried to move a file on the hard disk, then all my widgets in dashboard didn't work.

I rebooted to try and fix things, and it got stuck at the blue screen. Whatever key combination I press, it will not boot - not from CD, it won't show me the boot options if i hold Shift.

The only progress I can make is if I hold shift, then a cursor appears over the blue screen, and I can move the cursor around. But it won't do anything other than that.

Anybody got any ideas? I can't find much with my searches....

Well you hold down the option key to display the HD's to select from. Second, I would try zapping your PRAM by holding down command+option+P+R on startup.

Thanks for the answers. Holding the option key doesn't bring anything up - it stays with the blue screen whatever key combination is held down upon boot.

I have tried zapping the PRAM - doesn't change anything (although it did work)!

Any other ideas?

as i wrote, try 10.5.6 update again (combo)

or start from extern hdd and run diskwarrior 4.1.1

Maybe you misunderstood, the MBP does not respond to any key combination on boot, and gets stuck on the blue screen. So I cannot boot it into Mac OS to re-install an update, and I cannot boot from an external disk...

sorry.

shut down mbp, take out battery (also no ac) and hold down start-button for several seconds.
wait a little bit and then with battery inside and ac plugged try start again.

maybe pull out ram and seat it firmly again; if not apple-ram, put apple-ram back ..

what happens than ?
