How do you spell organize?

Maybe I am wrong, but I thought it could only be spelt one way?

Apparently the new Firefox begs to differ.

Forgive my ignorance if this is a legit spelling, lol.

I think it can be spelled either way because they are both in the dictionary. I prefer organize though because that is how it is used most of the time.

It's in the dictionary both ways, just found that out. lol...

But, doesn't it look kinda off to be spelled that way?

Organise = UK, Aus, NZ, South African spelling
Organize = U.S. and Canadian spelling

That's all it is. Nothing more.

It's accepted in British usage, though the OED panel doesn't seem to like it.

Wiki.

Organise is a valid UK spelling.

EDIT: Perhaps Firefox wants to be cool. There are places by where I live that go by Centre rather than Center.

What version of Firefox is this? I have 3.07 on my machine, and it shows organize with the z.

I spell it "organise", but that's because I'm a bit mixed up with my style of spelling.

There are some words where I'll still use the "-ize" ending. For example, the word "realize". I'd never spell it "realise". In fact, I don't believe I've seen UK members spell it that way either, even though it's probably a valid way to spell the word.

Oh no, definitely realise, realised for me.

Never seen realized in the UK…

Firefox is an international organisation, its not based out of California, its an open source collective, so it makes sense that they would use the international and correct spelling of Organise, and not the American lazy way of spelling it. When people from non English speaking countries learn English, they learn English and not American.

American lazy way, huh?

I'm sure you're proud of all the technical advances and trends that stem out of England these days.

What a bizarre route to go down.

Indeed, and it's a route we've gone down before. It was all rather tedious then so hopefully we won't be taking the same path again...
