4 grand isnt too bad considering I payed 3200 for my mac pro. Damn apple ram! But I was too affraid of opening a computer that expensive. I look back now and realize I could have gotten 12 gigs for the price of 4.

I'm happy with my 8x3.0, I just wish that I could get a GTX260 or GTX280 for it.

More drive bays would be nice, I guess.

No such speed Xeons .

If the 2.66GHz quad had been $2000 and the DP Mac Pro started at $3,299 for dual 2.66GHz both with 12 memory slots things would have been better recieved. Options for 3.2GHz processors would have been good too, though I imagine this is purely a supply issue right now. I'd have liked to have seen a 4670 instead of the GT 120 and a GTX 260 Core 216 instead of the 4870.

People would have still complained about Apple going above the $2,999 mark though.

3.26GHz...Hmm... 3.2, 2.26 & dyslexia perhaps?

At the current '09 MP pricing, I'd hate to see what Apple would charge if they offered 2x W5580's.

Okay, here's what I had calculated to be possible prior to launch:

3.2GHz Gainestown
whatever mid-range GPU
AirPort
stock everything else

This configuration would have been... $4200, I think. It would have left them with the same profit margin.

None of this $6,600 crap.

Apple makes about 25-30% profit on hardware, depending on the computer. They can stand to lose a percent or two, especially with the chips being cheaper overall and the highest end having the same original prices as Harpertown's launch prices.

I'm looking at getting this. I'll probably get a GeForce GTX 380 when they come out to use with Windows and change power plugs when I restart.
