No controls? Does that mean your headphones could not pause/play or track +/- over bluetooth?

Correct. But that could be fixed easily, and volume is already native to the headphones. More screenshots for those interested:

Great! You think you could post a pic of a push notification?
Would you also be knowing when the 3.0 is released to the public?

and even more...

Did you encounter any trouble syncing audio to your ipod? Applications worked fine for me but audio is being stubborn, it's being transferred but the ipod doesn't think anything is there.

I'd need an app utilizing push to show that, and as there won't be any on the store for quite some time (as far as I know), I can't demonstrate that. It is shown in the keynote, however, on Apple's site.

I downloaded the ipsw, opened iTunes, alt+clicked update, and selected the 3.0 beta. It just updated to it for me, so I didn't even have to sync when I was done, nor did I have to fool around with Xcode or any other developer rubbish.

I think I figured it out anyway, it was just taking a lot longer to sync than usual and I was cutting it off premature. Seems to work fine now.

Damn, I really am hoping to use the iPod Touch 2G+BT headset+a Google Voice app that I'm assuming they will release in the not to distant future to make and receive free phone calls.

Yeah, that'd be cool. I'm willing to bet that by the official release, there will be bluetooth microphone support. It isn't that big a deal though, seeing as you can just use a wired headset if you need to make a call on your touch, and they're pretty small, even the adapters.

Yeah but think about receiving a call, you'd have to have your headphones in your ears to hear it ring or have it on speaker and then plug in the headphones to answer the call, bluetooth headset seems to be the best option to receive calls without being tethered to the iPod and without having to plug in headphones every time to answer the calls

Good! I couldn't get my iPod to do anything at first (except the search on the home screen), none of the apps would open or anything, but I just had to restart after the initial updating process was over. Now everything is working awesomely!

I guess... I can't even get a regular headset to pair (just the phones), so I think Apple may be trying to steer people away from using the iPod touch as a phone (with good reason, the iPhone makes up a large amount of their profits). ;)

Meh, they make the same amount of money from the 2, the only difference is AT&T makes money from the iPhone as well.

I don't know... At&t pays them a lot to require a contract, that's why the price isn't $400-$600 like it was for the first iPhone. It is definitely not in their best interest to make the iPod touch into a phone, that's for sure.

AFAIK the 8 GB iPhone costs as much as the 16GB iPod Touch and the 16GB iPhone costs the same as the 32GB iPod Touch, but AT&T subsidizes the price difference for the iPhone in exchange for the monthly fees they get. So Apple gets the same amount.

Really? The cheapest you can get an iPhone off contract where I live is $~450 USD, and that's for the 8GB. How do you figure the 8GB iPhone in at $299 (the price of the 16GB touch)?

I ask because I'm genuinely interested, if I could've got one that cheap I wouldn't have bothered with this touch.

Are you in the US? I wasn't aware there was anyway to get an iPhone 3G without a contract in the US from Apple, which is why people have a problem narrowing down how much AT&T is subsidizing the iPhone 3G.

Yeah, you can buy it and cancel the contract, paying a $175 early termination fee. That + your fisrt month's bill + the cost of the phone in the store = a little over $450 after taxes.

Alternatively, you can compare it to O2's prepaid iPhone price (they are a European service provider), which is £342.33 (8GB) or £391.27 (16GB), but that's even more! Point is, the iPhone produces more profit than the iPod touch, if only because of the phone companies price gouging.

OK you're right about the costs of the prepaid iPhone vs the iPod Touch, so I believe you are correct, but what do you mean "the iPhone produces more profit than the iPod touch, if only because of the phone companies price gouging." You mean more profit for everyone involved or just for Apple, I don't see how the phone companies price gouging makes more profit for Apple since they aren't getting a percent of the monthly fees anymore with the 3G.
