I DO NOT TAKE CREDIT FOR THIS!

1. Attempt a restore of 2.2.1 in DFU Mode

2. Get the iTunes error message.

3. Reset device

4. Launch QuickPwn

5. Press next and get past the first 3 steps.

6. Bam, phone is fixed.

EDIT: It does work, just tried. iPhones baseband will still be updated but 2.2.1 works fine on it.

How to "reset" device???

after some screwing around it seems to be restoring in itunes just fine

Yep its restoring. Note that this was with a custom firmware i made in pwnagetool. But I didnt include cydia or any other jailbreak stuff with it. since I dont want a jailbreak.
After this im going to restore it again to the normal firmware.

iphone restored.

restarting...

back in 2.2.1 :)

whats the 3.0 baseband version? cuz mine is 04.20.01

this is what happens when the little kids need to have the bestest newest thing.. Soon you will all be turning purple and blowing up into a big balloon.. ITS NOT READY YET

PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO EASY DOWNGRADE FROM 3.0 TO 2.2.1

on a Windows Computer

1) open itunes
2) get iphone in DFU mode
3) select restore iphone (using the original 2.2.1 firmware, not the custom one)
4) let iphone do the restart process until you get ERROR 1013
5) close itunes
6) open quickpwn. you will get a message saying to hold power and home for 15 seconds. do it exactly like that hold the power and home for 15 secs.
7) turn on iphone by holding power button for 2 secs
8) open itunes and BINGO iphone is recognize and activated

there you go...

PS: iphone works fine on FW 2.2.1 and the newer baseband 04.20.01

I tried these steps but I get an error 1604. Any thoughts?

Did anyone else miss the part where it says that you cannot downgrade once you install 3.0 on your TEST DEVICE? You shouldn't be installing it if you're not going to be developing and testing on the device.

Did you miss the part where someone just DID downgrade 3.0? Get off your high horse. No one wants to hear any more of your negative comments. You've made enough in other threads to last everyone a long time.

Actually he is saying a truth. What people have found is a lopphole to put back 2.2.1, it is not allowed nonetheless.

Honestly, why do people have to have things now and cant wait. I already expect a slew and avalanche of new threads with tittle like "I got a PSOD!!!111!!!222 What do I do now???!?!12" because many people don't realize seeds contain expiration dates, just like in the days of 2.0 betas.

Please do not update just because you want to show off or because you don't want to wait. You will regret it later. Wait, its always worth the wait. BTW, before anyone says Im jealous I don't have the beta, I am registered in the iPhone Dev Program since December. However, I have just 1 phone, I won't sacrifice it just because of new features when its a pain to deal with bugs and reverting it back.

tl;dr - people who are not official developers should not update, period.

I did all these steps but I wound up with a functional phone that still has iPhone 3.0 on it. I don't understand what any of these steps actually accomplished. I tried to restore with original firmware and pwnd firmware... but I still wind up with 3.0. Am I missing something? I'm iTunes 8.1 BTW. Is this a problem?

Also... When I hold down the home + power button for 15 seconds the phone powers off then turns on again on its own before I can even hold the power button for 2 seconds. Does it REALLY need to be 15 seconds or just until the phone turns off?

Ive downgraded twice now and ive held it down for the full 15 seconds. It turns back on at around 13 but trust me it works. Just follow the steps exactly as it says.

Thanks for the helpful guide. I downgraded mine as well back to 2.2.1, and it went exactly as described. Good deal.

I am a paid developer and decided OS 3.0 was still a bit too quirky to deal with for now, but look forward to a future release.

It will let me reinstall the 3.0 beta but will only give me the 1604 error with 2.2.1. Anyone at all?

do you get this error right after you press restore or it takes about a while before u get the error?

in other words do you think that the 221 FW is fully installed in ur phone???

try this when you press the restore buttong hold down shift (on windows) and make sure you select the 221 FW. try both ways putting phone in DFU and also without DFU.

hope u fix ur phone soon.

I was finally able to get it. I don't think I was actually in DFU mode, just recovery mode. Once I got to the point where there is the blank white screen and tried to load the 2.2.1 FW it took it. Seems to be working great now on 2.2.1. Thanks!

Was this a custom firmware or the stock one? I've been successfully able to get a customized 2.2.1 running, but am still getting errors about half-way through the restore to stock 2.2.1 if I try. Any ideas?

High horse??? This having to hack/downgrade from 3.0 to 2.2.1 is absolute nonsense! This shouldn't even be a topic, because there shouldn't be a flood of people with no idea what their doing and too much throw-away money upgrading to "permanent testing status in 3.0 beta".

I'm a developer so I've installed 3.0 firmware lawfully but now I won't to go back to the 2.2 version. There's a way to do that witouth jailbrake or other crack way? I want my original iPhone 2.2 version but without using some third party software. It is possible? thank you
