Mail unexpectedly quits when I click on it?

I don't know off-hand, but for a start, run the Console in the background and see what kind of error messages (if any) come up.
The Console is under Applications > Utilities

try deleting the pref. file also. you will have to reset a lot of the things in mails settings but it should let it startup.
