Optimal mouse DPI?

Hello, I've been thinking about swapping my MX Revolution for something else with a higher DPI, but I'm really not sure what the optimal DPI is for use on a 1680x1050 screen with no accelleration enabled. I would prefer a mouse with 9 or more buttons, but that may be asking for too much. The MX Rev. is 800 DPI.
