MacBook Pro from $1799 with Student Discount

Hey Folks,
Can anyone please explain this?
Why is the price like so?

MacBook Pro starts from $1799 it says,but when I try to buy one it says $1899

Its outdated. The educational discount used to be $200 on the low-end Macbook Pro, now its only $100.

you get a better discount buying form amazon, macconnection and macmall.

I got my base model 15" UMBP upgraded 4GB of memory for $1799 after rebate and no tax and shipping. If you get form apple online they'll usually charge you for tax.

Apple also has a refurbished Unibody Macbook Pro for $1699.

after tax it comes out to being more than a brand new one from amazon for me. reason why i went with one of the online authorize retailers.

Ebay? $200 rebate through live. Total should come out to somewhere around 1550-1600

Use B&H Photo in NYC

B&H Photo is the largest Mac dealer on the eastern seaboard. They have the standard (2.4 GHz) Mac Pro for $1850, but through MS Live Cashback you get 2% back to your Paypal account. With 2-day shipping typically running about $25.

Total = $1850 - 2% cashback + $25 shipping = $1838.

Amazon = $1868 with shipping.

It also says the Mac Pro starts at $2599 and it goes up to 3.2GHz.
