I have a 20G iPod (about 3 months old). It seems that the connection between the remote cord and the iPod is poor. The cord only has to move a few degrees from perpendicular to the iPod for one channel to drop out. Very annoying. I took it back to the retailer who did not have another remote in the shop to test it out so I have to wait until they get more stock. (this is Perth, Australia, Thing move slowly)
Has anyone else had similar probs with their remote cable? Did replacing the remote fix it?
