I think it would work if you set the iPhone in the stand vertically. If not, you could chop a couple pencils in half.

I just ordered the Xstand btw, looks great and have read really good things about it.

ThinkGeek carries this small flat-folding stand for $4. Yes, it's just a small plastic holder, but it'll get you by. I'm thinking of getting one of these, or the moviewedge if I can get it to stick to my dashboard in my car.
 
there is another one like it

looks very similar too xstand except it has adjustable feet for those of us that like to have our phones in cases. I have to see if I can find it. 😉
 
i love the looks of the xstand... but i wanted/needed a stand that i could use with my case on... so i bought the movie wedge to use at work.... i use it both vertically and horizontally and it will be nice to have for travel!
