Sorry to ask this. I've seen certain of these topics alluded to in many posts, but I'm not quite able to get the answer I need, so . . . .

I've got a 2 yr old 17" MPB. My 150 gb hard drive has about 40 gb available. I've got about 40 gb of iTunes on it, and I have no idea what is taking up the rest of the space -- I don't think I've got a lot of applications, but who knows.

I want to buy an external HDD and was hoping that it would both act as a time machine back up disc and allow me to move files off my MPB.

1. If my computer's HDD is only 150 gb, is there any reason I need more than a 500 gb back up?

2. Can I use the same external HDD for time machine and to store accessible data? Do I need to partition it? (I have no idea how to do that.)

3. If my external HDD is hooked into my AEBS, can I move my iTunes music folder off my computer and onto the external HDD, but still access it automatically and wirelessly when I open iTunes? (both for playing/streaming through my Aexpress and for synching my iPod?

Any recommendations for the HDD? As expected, I've noticed both good and bad about most brands (Maxtor, Lacie, etc.). Any features I need? It will only be used with this one computer. No network.

Thanks in advance.
