Adjusted Price Songs Appearing in iTunes

The first adjusted price songs are appearing in iTunes, the first I can see is the Black Eyed Peas single "Boom Boom Pow" for $1.29. Apple has been expected to update the store today (April 7) with $1.29, $.99 and $.69 songs

No! Its actually happening, songs are appearing in the iTunes Store Australia with a $2.19 price tag!!!! We use to pay $1.69, and that was enough as it was. I hate the music labels..... the strange thing is, though, NONE of the songs in the top 100 are higher priced....yet...
Thumb resize.

I noticed too. If a song price has changed but it hasn't been updated you get a little message alerting you of the change. This is true for iPhones and iPod Touches too.

What really pisses me off is that it seems like they just picked random songs and albums to increase. I bet all the record company execs were meeting to discuss the best selling and most popular songs and albums from the last 2 years and then sent the list to Apple. I really wouldn't mind having DRM. The only reason iTunes Plus makes any sense to me is that it has better audio quality.

I have yet to see a $.69 song.

Or maybe it's random because the record cos. have no idea how things will sell at different prices, so they're going to test out different prices for different song categories (new hits, old hits, old b-sides, new b-sides, album filler, etc.)

All music in iTunes is now 100% DRM free (see attachment).

iTunes is still higher quality than Amazon (AAC > MP3).

30c increase in 6 years, and most is the same or cheaper? Get a grip will you.

Go to Amazon, thats exactly what the music industry want, they are sick of Apple bossing them around. iTunes marketshare wont budge more than a few percent though.

And yet I still have songs that cannot be upgraded. As far as my searching has found so far, "DRM-free" means they've pulled anything from the store that couldn't be upgraded.

Edit: OK, I found one song that's still protected in my library that's still available in the store. But it's iTunes Plus in the store and yet I can't upgrade.

.
I was waiting to buy an album when it went itunes plus, but instead it's now gone. And it's not available at the amazon mp3 store. Great! One step forward two giant leaps back.

like any 'everyday' listener would notice...
and if you happen to be those people with high quality ear/headphones and who care about song quality that much, you wouldnt be using an iPod as an MP3 player and you would go FLAC.

DRM Stuff Just Removed not Replaced

Not as good as it's sounds, as they have just REMOVED the DRM stuff that was left, NOT replaced it with DRM free.

I have over 150 tracks with DRM that haven't offered an upgrade, and upon checking they are no longer in the store.

I was waiting to purchase Trapt - Headstrong when it was made available DRM free, now it's not in the store any more.

I would not be surprised if this were the case. Setting the prices at random would give then good data on how price effects the number sold. Using any method other then random would skew the data.

What I would do if I were running the experiment was to leave the top 500 songs alone and then randomly adjust the prices of the next few thousand and then wait a month.

We all know that raising the price 20 cents will reduce the number sold but will it reduce the total money taken in? Who knows? If you double the price will you sell half as many? A third? or only cut sales by 10% No one would know unless they did some tests.

Boom Boom Pow is still the usual $1.79 here in NZ, but Where Is the Love is now $2.39

That's what I'm talking about. It's like they just chose random songs....It makes no sense....

I'm not sure if this has been done on the U.S. store, but the UK now has an 'iTunes Pass' for the Fray. It basically entitles the user to a collection of live material (audio and visual), which will be updated, until June 30th. There's no price as of yet. Intriguing stuff.

for me it shows up as £9.99, but only after i'd accepted the new terms and conditions for itunes, which is prompted me to do when i upgraded more of my music to itunes plus. it said at the top of the box with the terms in that they've been updated to include the itunes pass feature

Yeah I can see it now too. Not worth it at the moment, but I guess the point is more will be added. What i'm wondering though is what will happen on the 30th of June when the pass ends. Will you still have the content..? Surely you must...

I've been looking and looking but can I can't find any 59p songs. I've seen only a handful at the top price whilst most appear to have remained at 79p.
