concept of an iPhone "magnet"

liking the look of it!

what does everyone think?

It's–to borrow a term from the Alternate History forum–a "feature-wank", in that it incorporates everything that people complain about that we'll never see (notification light, physical flash, removable battery, etc.).:D

And why do we need a magnetometer when we have GPS?

The color changing home button would annoy me. I think an LED would do the job better. Or just no light at all.

Also, I think the back should be a solid color, like the 3G. Also, the white box at the top sticks-out too much

But it's still a good concept none the less.

Because GPS can't tell you which direction you're facing. It can only tell you which direction you're moving (if you actually are moving).

+1...of course GPS tells you *where you are* too, not just which direction you are moving. Importantly, we need a magnetometer so I can hold up my iPhone to a pub and it can tell me if the beer is cheaper there or across the street.

Love the front facing camera and the glowing home button. Double tap it and it takes you to the relevant alert (miss call, new text, voicemail, etc).

While I may find use in a new message indicator, I definitely don't want the whole home button glowing.

Maybe something more like this:

But unless if configurable, it would be pointless for me after push notification in 3.0 because I'll probably always have at least one notification.

TBH the camera thing seems like what you'd find on an 11-year-old girl's phone.

I like the notification thing there though. ^^^^

I think that would actually be the BeerGoggleometer. :D

don't know what's funnier==> the phone or the descriptions of the features lol

that looks more sweet, nice dude

Things I would like seen changed to that mock up:
-Drop the two tone and make it flat black with the curve of the current 3G
-Drop the mirror and bring the camera down to 3.2Mp with a partnership with Canon for a bigger lens and sensor
-Make the notification as shown above where it is just the outline of the button
-Thinner bezel that is black, or at least matte
-"Frontal" should be "Front"

That would be really cool. For example, earlier tonight I was playing a game on my MacBook with my headphones in. I received 3 emails but never knew it because I didn't hear them come in. It would be neat to have a light to indicate new mail, text, missed calls etc... I mean that right there is a real world example of it coming in handy.

i like most of these ideas,

but i find the green notification light (home button) to be a little to tacky, maybe just a white light? Or even make it customizable, and choose your own colours.

Great, except Canon would probably want their logo on it if they even agree, and let's just say Apple doesn't like foreign logos on their products.

I can see where a notification light would be handy.

Deaf Users?

Or Blackberry converts. (I'm not one myself).

Sorry for not keeping these posts merged but I'm on the mobile version of the site and can't add more than one quote.

I do like the second design, but I'm not crazy about the green light. Maybe if it was white it would be better. And just another thought, what if it pulsed for a set about of time like 15,30,45,60,90, or 120 seconds and then either turned off or went solid. Just to draw a little more attention to it initially. Of course I think you should also have the option to shut the light notification off.

Overall not a day concept drawing. No way I could do it

I also had that idea, as well as the small square being split into 4 quarters which light up in turn or together to provide different alerts,

which one sounds better?
