iPod Can I delete these music files?

I've downloaded some albums and added them to my itunes library. Can I delete these original download files and will the music still be in my itunes library? Its like I have two copies of each album. One in my downloads folder and an exact copy in my itunes library folder. Will everything still work if I delete the copy in my downloads folder?

You should first check that you have "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" selected in the preferences (under the advanced tag)

Once itunes has copied the music to the (itunes) library you no longer need to keep the original copy. Although backing it up on a dvd is never a bad idea.
