I'm sure I've managed this before, but can't remember how.

You're playing a video and you want a snapshot of that babe singing to print and put in your wallet... what's the key sequence?

Err... you just want a screen shot when a video is playing, or do you want to capture a video of what is actually being displayed on your screen for X amount of time? Why doesn't Command Shift 3 work for you?

Good question, and I hadn't realised until now that cntrl/cmd/3 could grab a 'still' from iTunes.

My attachment shows the two grabs.

I suppose the iTunes grab could be cropped. I like the unobtrusive vlc one, however.

For just a region of the screen use Cmd + Shift + 4 and drag a selection box over the area you want

If you press Cmd + Shift + 4 and then hit Space, you can take a screen shot of only the window that you click on.
