What is this symbol, and how do I get rid of it ?

I was in the network preferences a while back to try and get network sharing on. I can't remember what I did, but this annoying symbol is always in the menu bar and I want to get rid of it. How and what is it anyway ?

Hold command and drag it away. *poof*

Press and hold CMD and drag the icon off the menu bar. IIRC, it's some kind of network connection.

Well, you never actually said which icon on the menu you showed us is the one you want to get rid of.

It's the third one from the left it looks like this : <...>

that is the PPPoE service... in Network pref > Ethernet > Configure Box > Select Create PPPoE Service.

Under the PPPoE service you will see a check box to add the icon to the menu bar. 🙂
