CD Drive to Iphone

Is it possible to have a CD drive like the one for the macbook air and have it go to a 30 pin dock connector so you could rip CD's and DVD's straight to your iphone?? just a thought it would be really cool...since 3rd party's will be able to make accessories for the iphone

The iPhone doesn't have the muscle to rip a DVD(CD would be pushing it I'd imagine)

I'll take BT keyboard support first!

I'll second that. I imagine being on my Mac when an SMS arrives. I activate an app and I'm replying to the SMS on my Mac's keyboard which is connected by BT to the iPhone.

Yeah, but:

iPhone 3G
CPU 620 MHz ARM 1176,
memory 128 MB DRAM.

compaired to even a crappy (sorry if i offend) mac mini;

2.0GHz or 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
memory at least 1GB, 1066MHz

How long is going to take to rip then re-encode a DVD? 48 hours?

Not to mention even with a 32Gb storage on the iPhone 3rd Gen, it will be tight to rip a 7.5 Gb DVD to a Temp folder before burining it.

What I would like to be able to do is to drag and drop files to/from Mac/PC via a USB rather than just via Wi-Fi, printing, either via cable or bluetooth.

I'm not really sure re: keyboard, as if I Really need a keyboard a desktop or lap top isnver that far away.

You realize the demand for what you want is terribly low, most people nowadays just pay for their MP3's or download them illegally

Let's get flash, Bluetooth support, etc first, we'll worry about cd ripping later

honestly though lets look at the schematics of your idea

A) Plug 30 pin CD drive into iPHone to rip music = Drain battery in minutes
B) Plug 30 pin CD drive into iPHone with AC adapter = zero mobility

The iPhone is a mulitfunction device but it doesn't have to do EVERYTHING ( I have a toaster for toast, etc )

The final option
c) Plug iPhone into computer and use 52x CDROM drive = faster, easier, charges iPhone, etc etc

I noticed you purchased a Macbook in July, why not use that to rip music ?
