HD speeds

For my new 1.5 15" pb, is it really worth it to have the 5400 rpm drive or would i be perfectly ok with the 4200?

I might as well go down in a blaze of glory on this one..

I chose the 4200rpm because I wanted more battery life. The 5400rpm will definitely yield more performance, but it also reduces battery life marginally. I'm mobile a lot so battery life is more important.

And, to be quite honest, I run Word, Excel, Netscape, iCal, Mail, Remote Desktop Connection, MSN Messenger, iTunes, and Terminal constantly, and I notice no performance issues.

If you do HD intensive tasks (photoshop, audio/video editing...) often, get the 5400. If you surf, email and write the majority of the time, save your cash and get the 4200rpm drive.

ok thanks guys, i don't really use a lot of heavy duty applications like photoshop and video editing and stuff like that. I'll mainly be using it for music, typing, watching movies, and gaming.

Most high speed drives have extensive power saving features; It's said that a laptop running the hitachi 7K60 (7200 rpm notebook drive) runs for about 15 minutes longer than the stock 4200 rpm Apple drives.
