Apple Releases Minor Update to White MacBook

Apple today quietly bumped the specs on the white MacBook. Changes to the base specs include:

- Processsor speed bumped from 2.0 GHz to 2.13 GHz.
- RAM speed bumped from 667 MHz to 800 MHz.
- Hard drive capacity increased from 120 GB to 160 GB. Build-to-order options up to 500 GB are now available, up from a previous maximum of 320 GB. Notably, the aluminum MacBook continues to offer a maximum hard drive capacity of 320 GB.

In addition, Apple now advertises battery life of "up to 5 hrs wireless productivity", an increase over the previous advertised battery life of 4.5 hours. Finally, the new MacBook is advertised to meet new Energy Star Version 5.0 requirements and is rated EPEAT Gold, compared to a Silver rating on the previous model.

Base pricing remains at $999.

Not a big bump, but I'll take it.

I'm guessing the aluminium would be updated shortly, possibly with this rumoured rebrand, hence why the aluminiums weren't updated right now. Shame no DDR3 RAM still but, it does add to the appeal of the WhiteBook.

I would think that Apple did this as the Back To School Promotion is around the corner.

Odd that this happened on a Wednesday, but as someone above mentioned, this is just an OEM parts update for Apple. Since the white Macbook I believe is manufactured and assembled by a different company than the unibodies, it makes sense that they didn't all update at once.

This actually seems like the rumors of the rebranding might be true, that there won't be a unibody Macbook, but just unibody Macbook Pros.

MacRumors should really make a separate category for the white MacBook in the Buyer's Guide. Seeing as it is getting updates far more often and how this type of MacBook is becoming a category on its own.

Hmm a strange move indeed...

But lineup rebranding does seem a bit more real now

Processor

is there a different processor in there or did they just over-clock the old one?
