On plugging headphones into my ibook, the speakers continue to put out the music and even these don't always work in tandem. the support tele center said it would cost $600 to fix- any ideas?

I wonder if the same hardware fault that causes this problem in all PowerMac G5s is to blame for this problem with your iBook? Has it always been this way, or did it work as expected before? If it used to work before, you've most likely been bitten by the iBook logic board bug, which does cost about $600 to fix.
