I've only just noticed how much the DVD Player icon, at least in 10.3, looks like an iPod mini. The resemblance is quite uncanny. 🙂

They both have a window and a wheel, but nobody would confuse them with each other.

they do look pretty similar. odd that i never noticed that before. i don't think the inference is necessarily that the iPod mini is going to start playing DVDs soon, just that they look similar.

Sure. I wasn't suggested that Apple is planning to link them in any way. My observation was that they look similar ... and I still think they do. 🙂
