Apple Releases Safari 4 for Mac and Windows

Apple today announced the official launch of its Safari 4 browser for OS X and Windows. Safari 4, which has been available as a public beta since February, delivers a number of enhancements to Apple's browser offering.
Quote:
Apple today released Safari 4, the world's fastest and most innovative web browser. Available for Mac and Windows PCs and introduced as a beta in February of this year, Safari 4 features the Nitro engine which runs JavaScript up to 4.5 times faster than Safari 3. Safari 4 makes browsing more intuitive and enjoyable with innovative features, such as Top Sites, Full History Search and Cover Flow, and support for modern web standards like HTML 5 and advanced CSS Effects.

"The successful beta release helped us fine tune Safari 4 into an even better, faster version that customers are going to love," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "Safari is enjoyed by 70 million users worldwide and with its blazing fast speed, innovative features and support for modern web standards, it’s the best browser on any platform."
Safari 4 may be downloaded at Apple's site.

Anyone else not able to have the tabs on the very top or the new tab button in the top right corner? They seem to have vanished.

Tabs?!

What? I just finally gave in and spent a month getting used to tabs on top (and grew to prefer it) and now they're gone in the beta? WTF?! Anyway to fix this????

Gone too. They have this "loading..." box that pops up instead in the address bar.

They did fix quite a few bugs though.

Yeah, I got used to the tabs at the top too. But I do enjoy the functionality (double click for new tab, even spacing) of having the tabs back on the bottom. It would seem that if the page title at the top could be done away with, and have the address bar and control buttons there, next to the stoplight, then we would again regain the lost space. There really is no need to have the page title shown twice, once at the top and again in the tab.

I just hope it doesn't crash all the time like the beta did.

I'm glad they dropped the tabs along the top....annoying feature of the Beta!

I do notice a massive improvement in speed, much snappier at loading pages.

also, anyone check to see if it creates the huge file of page images like the beta did in the hidden /private/var or wherever-it-was folder.

Good news, I hope. While looking through the Safari resources images, I found one called TabsOnTopPreference.tiff . Now I just have to find how to enable it.

WARNING: Do not download this if you like tabs on top, they got rid of it! And I had to force-quit it the first time I launched it, because its slow. Overall its seems slower.

Apple, thank you for the tabs, really. I much prefer them like that. How I love old times. However the progress bar isn't very useful as it doesn't really show the real progress except for the colour change.

oh good. I knew some of this function would be hidden somewhere in there! Hopefully you can figure it out
